Joseph McDermott Recreation

In a previous post for my illustration brief I recreated one of Jason Brooks illustrations, my tutors told me that I could use this in my portfolio and suggested I do another recreation so it makes a pair.

I decided to recreate one Joseph McDermott's comic illustrations as its a completely different style of illustration and I thought creating the same look would be a challenge and a great new skill to learn.

Here is Joseph McDermott's original illustration

And here is my recreation, looking back there are a lot of small things I could touch up but from a distance its probably not noticeable, my dots are also a little smaller than the original which is why she looks a little paler in my recreation (that's quite annoying for my eyes!)

Not too bad for half a days worth of work!

My final sheet to go in my portfolio. I am pretty happy with my second recreation, of course if I had the time or patience I would go back and fix it here and there however those dots are eventually going to do my nut in!

But I did learn a new skill and a new piece for my portfolio.

Thanks for reading!! What do you think of my recreation? Could it pass for a Joseph McDermott?

Melting Colours!

Recently I have been looking into K-pop music videos as part of my research for my theme, one of the music videos I have looked at is G-Dragon's 'Crayon'

Seeing as the music video and song was inspired by crayons I decided to do a small scale melted crayon page in my book using crayola crayons.

I started by gluing down the crayons in rainbow order to my page, then layed out newspaper to protect the floor and everything in my way. Then on the highest heat setting I slowly melted the bottom of the crayons and allowed it to drip.

All in all this was quite easy and I'm happy with the outcome, I am going to take the colours and perhaps the drip shapes into consideration when I am designing.

This was a great way to take my mind off the stress of college work whilst doing work as I am amazed by the silliest things!

Thanks for reading!! Check out G-D's MV Crayon it may grow on you!

Inspiration: Jeremy Scott

This week we have started looking at ideas for our final collection, one of the things I have decided to look at is KPop(korean pop) fashion. One of the most unique and edgy bands I follow are 2NE1, I decided to look at the designer Jeremy Scott who designed for their world tour 'New Evolution'

2ne1 have been wearing Jeremy Scotts garments since their debut. Thy also collaborated together and created Adidas originals Jeremy Scott x 2ne1 JS wings.

Above is his phone dial sweater worn by CL in their 'Please Don't Go' performance, I have an irritating need to DIY this!!

Although some of his collections are sports wear I really like how he has used bright colours and eye catching prints on his garments. I especially love the Keyboard print.

I also like how he incorporates cartoons in his collections.

Thanks for reading!! What do you think of Jeremy Scott??

Be My Lucky Star!

For years now I've had an obsession of making lucky stars hoping they would bring me some luck. Traditionally people give 365 lucky starts in a pot as a gift to someone at the start of a year, one for every day.

My auntie has a huge collection of these, maybe that's why she keeps winning the lottery!

These are some pictures I took of some of the lucky stars I have made, not quite 365 but my collection is getting there.

Thanks for reading!! I hope you all had a great start to 2013, I know my years been pretty lucky so far!
